It started in the early 1900s when traditional cast iron pots and pans were being replaced by aluminum. Though the new pots and pans were lighter, they blackened easily and were extremely difficult to clean. That was until a cookware salesman and his brother-in-law, a jeweller, developed a product to bring back their shine. Made from jeweller’s rouge, soap and fine steel wool, demand for their product grew and Brillo was born.
Today, Brillo is one of the world’s most recognizable brands. So much so, it has been immortalised through modern art, music, TV and more.
